On October 7, 2021 Eurothink – Centre for European Strategies organized a public discussion entitled: Combatting Forest threats: Institutional capacities. The discussion was part of the project: ” Bottom-Up Opposition to Illegal Logging in North Macedonia” that is currently being implemented with the support of the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) through Embassy of Canada to Serbia, North Macedonia and Montenegro and is a follow-up initiative to a previously implemented project encompassing this issue.

The kick-off conference was formally opened by H. E. Ambassador Giles Norman, who was conducting a visit to Skopje. Ambassador Norman emphasized the importance of giving priority to local initiatives and consistent projects tackling climate changes and thus preserving the eco system. This debate consisted of two distinct panels including relevant representatives of institutions combatting illegal logging and wildfires in our country. The aim of this discussion was to enhance the cooperation of the government and the civil society sector in the interest of reducing and eliminating the calamities caused by illegal logging and wildfires. The event was organized in a hybrid form and took place at Public Room in Skopje and through the online platform Zoom.
