Macedonia and Bulgaria – So close, yet so far away

Bulgaria’s “no” to the start of negotiations with Macedonia in December 2012 (un) justifiably surprised many in Macedonia, especially due to the fact that since 2008 the media have been constantly reporting that Bulgaria is considering making Macedonia’s accession conditional on improving bilateral relations.
